Google cuts titles by pixel width, not character count — which is why most length checkers get it wrong. This one measures the real rendered width, so you know exactly what searchers will see.
About 10% too wide — Google will cut the end off with an ellipsis.
About 23% too wide — Google will cut the end off with an ellipsis.
Pixel limits reflect Google's typical desktop and mobile rendering. Google rewrites titles on some results regardless of length.
Ranking fifth and getting no clicks?
Weak snippets waste rankings you have already earned. We audit every title and description on your site, find the pages losing the most clicks, and rewrite them — no new rankings required.

How long should a title tag be?
Google cuts titles at roughly 580 pixels on desktop, not at a fixed character count — which is why character-based checkers disagree with each other. A title of narrow letters fits far more characters than one full of capitals and wide letters. This tool measures the actual rendered width, so it tells you what Google will really display. As a rough guide that works out to 50–60 characters, but measure rather than count.
How long should a meta description be?
About 920 pixels on desktop, which is usually 140–160 characters, and a little more on mobile. Descriptions do not directly affect rankings, but they heavily affect click-through rate — and click-through rate affects how much traffic a given ranking actually earns you.
Why does Google show a different title than the one I wrote?
Google rewrites titles on a large share of results, usually when your title is truncated, keyword-stuffed, repeats your brand name, or does not match what the page is really about. Writing a title that fits without truncation and honestly describes the page is the most reliable way to have your version kept.
Does the meta description affect rankings?
Not directly — Google has confirmed it is not a ranking factor. It affects whether people click. On a page ranking fifth, a better description can meaningfully increase traffic without the ranking moving at all, which is often the fastest win available on an existing page.
Should every page have a unique title and description?
Yes. Duplicate titles across many pages is one of the most common problems we find in audits, especially on sites with location or service pages generated from a template. If fifty pages share one title, Google struggles to tell which one to rank and often picks none of them.
Can you write titles and descriptions for my whole site?
Yes — it is one of the highest-return fixes on most sites, because it improves traffic from rankings you already have rather than waiting for new ones. Send us your site and we will show you which pages are losing the most clicks to weak or truncated snippets.
